How do I Become a 4R Star Business?

Schedule your free site assessment by contacting Waste Management of Alameda County, Inc. (WMAC) at 510-613-8751 to begin your basic recycling program and pledge to become a High-Performance Recycler. This will earn you your first R – Recycle, and a window decal indicating participation in the program.

Next, start and maintain at least one activity in each of the following categories: Reuse, Reduce, and Rot (or alternate). See the “4R Business, 4R Planet” Program Highlights sheet for more information or ask the WMAC Recycling Coordinator for assistance during your site assessment.
Complete the “4R Business, 4R Planet” Program Application and submit to the WMAC Recycling Coordinator at the time of your site assessment, or to Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) by mail, fax, or drop-off: 21040 Marshall Street, Castro Valley, CA 94546; fax 510-537-1312. You will be notified of your application status within 15 business days.
Now it’s time to reap the rewards! Businesses that successfully complete the 4R Business, 4R Planet Award Program requirements earn their 4R Stars. 4R Star businesses will receive an award certificate to display with pride, and one (1) free advertisement in the Castro Valley Forum, and more!

HOW DO I GET MY BUSINESS RECOGNIZED IN THE CASTRO VALLEY FORUM?

4R Star businesses will receive detailed instructions on how to be recognized in an ad in the Castro Valley Forum.

HOW DO I GET MY 4R STAR BUSINESS CERTIFICATE?

On the “4R Business, 4R Planet” Program Application, you identified that you would like your certificate mailed, hand-delivered, or presented to you at a CVSan Board Meeting. Certificates will be mailed within 30 days of becoming a 4R Star Business. If you selected hand-delivery, or Board Meeting presentation, CVSan staff will contact you within 15 days to schedule.
