MANUFACTURER'S VOLUNTARY RECALL AND EXCHANGE OF CARTS
During November 12 – December 21, 2012, Rehrig Pacific Company, the manufacturer of carts currently used in CVSan and contracted by Waste Management of Alameda County, Inc. (WMAC), will perform a partial recall of Recycling, Organics & Garbage carts within CVSan due to a specific batch of material that adversely affected their durability. Carts that fall under the recall do not pose a safety risk.
Rehrig Pacific Company crews will:
1. Check your carts to determine if they are included in the recall.
2. Replace all affected carts.
3. Leave a tag on each set of carts to let you know the action taken.
You will not have to pay anything nor will this affect your rate. The exchange of these carts will extend the life of the carts and benefit the CVSan community. The CVSan Board of Directors approved a Manufacturer’s Cart Recall at no cost to the CVSan community to remove the affected carts and replace them with carts that have undergone additional testing and quality control measures.
Residential cart customers will receive the first notification letter in September and a second letter two weeks before the two (2) week period when crews will be in your area. During those 2 weeks, please leave ALL CARTS curbside on your service day until 5:00 p.m.
Alternatively, Rehrig will have a work yard located at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Grounds, 9711 Dublin Canyon Road, Castro Valley, CA 94552, Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving). If you would like to bring your carts to their work yard, they will be happy to swap out the carts for you.
For over 40 years, Rehrig Pacific Company has been committed to producing the highest quality plastic containers for customers and is one of the largest producers of refuse and recycling containers in the world. Through proactive monitoring of these carts, it came to our attention that the carts were not performing up to our standards. This discovery and occurrence was the first of its kind for Rehrig Pacific Company, thus suggesting an unprecedented response to take a proactive approach to replace all of the potentially affected carts. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Why is the Manufacturer’s Cart Recall happening?
A. In March 2009, a specific batch of material used to manufacture some carts adversely affected their durability. Carts that fall under the recall do not pose a safety risk.
Q. Are all carts part of the Recall?
A. No, only a portion of carts are part of the recall; carts will be identified by the Cart Manufacturer, Rehrig Pacific Company.
Q. When will the exchanges of the affected carts occur?
A. The Manufacturer’s Cart Recall will be conducted November 12 – December 21, 2012.
Q. When will the cart exchange crews pass by my address?
A. During the 6-week period of November 12 – December 21, 2012, crews will attempt two passes at each service address on the regular collection day during a two-week period (one pass each week for a total of two).
The schedule of visits will be based on routes and cart customers will receive a 1st letter in September and a 2nd letter two weeks before indicating their cart replacement dates.

YOUR CART REPLACEMENT DATES:
On your service day, during November 26-30 and December 3-7, please leave ALL CARTS curbside until 5:00 p.m.
If your service day is Thursday, in this example, you would set out all three carts (Recycling, Organics, and Garbage) curbside for collection and inspection Thursday, November 29, 2012 and Thursday, December 6, 2012 and leave all carts curbside until 5:00 p.m.
Q. How will I know if crews have passed by my address and performed the exchange?

A. No, Backyard customers will not need to roll out their carts curbside.
