Recycling Your Used Motor Oil and Filters
Single-Family residents: Place up to three (3) filters and three (3) gallons of used motor oil and other accepted auto fluids curbside per week. Place next to the blue recycling cart on your regular collection day. Do not place in gutter or on top of carts.
Motor oil and other accepted auto fluids may be set out using their original container. Containers that are larger than a 5-quart size will not be accepted.
Motor oil and other accepted auto fluids may also be set out using a Used Oil Recycling Kit. To request a kit, contact ACI Customer Service at (510) 483-1400 or info@alamedacountyindustries.com. Kits include a secure screw-top gallon container for oil collection, and a CVSan zipper-lock plastic bag for the oil filter.
Filters must be set out in a CVSan zipper-lock filter bag. Please do not use your own bag. Filter bags can be requested by contacting ACI Customer Service.
Replacement Kits: Residents who set out their oil and filter using a recycling kit will receive a full replacement kit from ACI. Residents who set out their oil in its original container and their filter in a CVSan zipper-lock filter bag will receive a replacement filter bag only.
Acceptable auto fluids: used motor oil, transmission fluid, gear lube and other lubricant oils commonly used in cars and light trucks, crankcase fluid, differential fluid, hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid. These fluids can be combined in the collection container provided with the Used Oil Recycling Kit. Anti-freeze and brake fluid are not accepted.
Multi-family residents: Take used motor oil and filters to a Household Hazardous Waste facility or a Certified Collection Center. Please see list at bottom for details.
CVSan's Used Motor Oil Filter Exchange Program
Earn $15 coupons for new oil filters! During this program, single-family residents that change their own motor oil are eligible to receive $15 coupons for new oil filters. See below for details.
When does the program begin?
The next Used Motor Oil Filter Exchange Program is scheduled to run from Monday, October 9, 2023, to Friday, November 17, 2023.
How do I participate in the program?
During the program, contact Alameda County Industries 24 hours prior to setting out your used oil filter (motor oil is optional for coupon eligibility, but please continue to set it out) on your collection day. Contact ACI’s Customer Service Department:

The following week, you will receive a coupon in the mail for a new motor oil filter.
A used oil filter (motor oil optional) must be set out for recycling at the curb during the program in order to receive a coupon for a new filter. Filters must be set out by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day.
If your service day is Monday, you can leave a voicemail or email during the weekend stating that you will be setting out a used oil filter on Monday and provide your name, address, and phone number.
If you plan to participate multiple times during the program, let ACI know during your first call or email. Simply state that you will be participating in the Filter Exchange Program and provide each date that you plan to participate. Once you complete these steps, you will not need to call/email ACI each week.
One coupon will be distributed per household per week of collection (up to five coupons total). You can set out more than one filter at a time but are only eligible to receive up to one coupon each week.
Please note that you can recycle your motor oil and filter year-round. Coupons are only distributed during the Filter Exchange Program.
How do I use the coupon?
Coupons are redeemable only at O’Reilly Auto Parts Castro Valley (2990 Castro Valley Blvd.). The coupon may be redeemed for one (1) filter with a maximum value of $15 (including tax). If the cost of the filter and tax is less than $15, the balance is not transferable, not redeemable for cash, cannot be used on anything else, and is forfeited. Maximum one (1) coupon per household per week of collection. Coupons are valid for a limited time only and expire on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
CVSan reserves the right to alter or cancel the program at any time for any reason.
