| The District has established
a standing Community Advisory Committee to provide input on a variety
of Wastewater and Solid Waste issues concerning the District.
CVSD recently had great success with a Commercial Users Advisory
Committee which was comprised of local commercial property owners.
The committee was formed to deal with a single issue of raising
commercial sewer service charges. The committee overwhelmingly supported
the District’s program. The District will repeat the committee
structure with the proposed new committee.
The Community Advisory Committee will be a body of no more than
ten (10) members of the community. Community involvement and participation
are integral components to an effective administration of Castro
Valley Sanitary District operations. The District will use the Community
Advisory Committee to involve the larger community in the thinking,
planning, and implementation of select major initiatives. This process
assures public involvement in Wastewater and Solid Waste matters.
One the first initiatives was the project distribution of a $30,000
grant received from the Alameda County Waste Management Authority.
The grant was funding received by the District in 2004 in recognition
of its pioneering efforts in the organic food waste program. The
funds were used for community civic projects in the area. A wastewater
initiative will be the review of modifications to the new sewer
connection fee administration. These are a couple of the initiatives
the committee is to review and make recommendations upon.
The committee is made up of members of the community which are
appointed by each member of the Board. Each Board member makes two
(2) appointments.
The District advertised for seats on the committee and accepted
information for potential committee members. Members were asked
to sit on the committee for a term of two (2) years. No compensation
is offered for participation.
The Community Advisory Committee provides ongoing representation
of community interests. As a permanent structure, the committee
serves as a link between the Board and the community. In summary,
the Community Advisory Committee is an effective means to connect
the District with the public it serves.
If you are interested in volunteering to serve on the Community
Advisory Committee for a term of two (2) years, please send a letter
of interest not longer than one (1) page in length to:
