Earth Day
A Successful 2018 Earth Day: Clean-Up & Recycle Event!
Earth Day Clean-Up
The weather was somewhat cool but otherwise beautiful for CVSan’s annual Earth Day Clean-Up event on Saturday, April 28th.
Over 700 volunteers at 11 Castro Valley schools and six public sites participated in the 16th annual Clean-Up. Volunteers cleared 50 cubic yards of plant debris to be composted and abated 5 cubic yards of litter from Castro Valley streets, parks, schools, and creeks. Volunteers enjoyed free breakfast and coffee provided by CVSan, Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley, and Karin Johnson Specialty Cakes and Pastries. Other event sponsors include Pete’s ACE Hardware, Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, East Bay Regional Park District, Alameda County Public Works Agency, and Waste Management of Alameda County, Inc.

Recycles Day and Compost Give-Away
CVSan presented its 17th Recycles Day event and Compost Give-Away on Saturday, April 28th at Canyon Middle School. Over the course of six and a half hours, 1,321 CVSan residents and businesses showed their spirit and environmental responsibility by participating in the event.
Attendees recycled several hundred boxes of sensitive documents, 172 tires, 75 gallons used cooking oil, and 28,448 pounds of e-waste. More than 3,900 1-cubic foot bags of compost were distributed and up to 1,062 cubic yards of construction and demolition debris will be recycled for free from the 531 vouchers provided.
