HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste
Safely, Conveniently -- and Free at the Household Hazardous Waste facility!

Check your house, garage, and yard for common household products (such as cleaners, paints, car products, and pesticides) that may be hazardous to your children, your pets or the environment.

Words such as danger, warning, caution, poisonous, and flammable on the labels can mean a product is toxic. Label the toxic products you find as a reminder to use them up and dispose of them safely. Do not put such materials in garbage cans or storm drains.

Call 800-606-6606 or visit www.household-hazwaste.org to find locations and schedules for the county's Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facilities.

Starting in 2007

The Hayward Household Hazardous Waste facility will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am - 1pm (except Thanksgiving week, Christmas week, and New Year's week).

TM Discount Program - Starting December 1, 2005

Improperly disposed syringes, hypodermic needles, and other "sharps" are a serious hazard to our families and community. Fortunately, the Sharps Disposal by Mail TM Discount Program can eliminate the risk by providing you with a sharps container, a government-approved return sharps mail back box, protective 3-ml bag liner and a 4-part simplified tracking form. The cost of destruction and mailing, as well as confirmation of destruction, is included in the purchase price.

To make it even easier for you, Waste Management has partnered with Rite Aid (3848 Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley, CA 94546; (510) 886-3341) to offer a discount to Castro Valley Sanitary District residents when you present the card included in the November 2005 bill, or a copy of the CVSD/Waste Management bill, or ID at time of purchase.

For more information about the proper disposal of home-generated sharps, talk to your Rite Aid pharmacist today.
