CVSan’s Zero Waste Week: The Museum of Bad Design
Since 2016, Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) has been offering Zero Waste Week for the community to get inspired and learn more about zero waste and how they can practice it. CVSan installed the Museum of Bad Design at the Castro Valley Library to recognize Zero Waste Week in 2017. This display showcases one-time use products that are harmful to the environment alongside reusable products that can be used instead. The Museum of Bad Design invites us to consider the difference we can make for the environment if we “Use This” and “Not That”.
CVSan will loan The Museum of Bad Design to schools and businesses to use as a tool for education. Cafeterias and lunchrooms are a great place to showcase the display and help spread the message of how everyone can practice zero waste by using more reusables. Request to display the Museum of Bad Design at your school or place of business by filling out the Donation Request Form.
The Museum of Bad Design shows how some commonly used disposable items can end up in waterways and on streets. Disposables may be lightweight and convenient, but they are “throw-aways” designed for the landfill. Convenient, affordable, reusable, and refillable options are easily available and should be used instead. There are better options for reducing waste from disposable and overpackaged products.
