Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) is pleased to announce a rate decrease for solid waste collection services. These changes will be effective July 1, 2021. On June 1, 2021, CVSan’s Board of Directors unanimously approved Ordinance No. 187. The ordinance will decrease the rates charged for solid waste collection by 0.5 percent. This rate decrease for CVSan customers is based upon the latest third party detailed rate review for this rate period.
CVSan uses a third party to review solid waste service rates on an annual basis, and wastewater service rates every two years. In addition, as part of continuously striving to find the balance between providing exceptional service at a cost-effective rate, CVSan staff devotes significant effort to analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of potential rate increases.
General Manager Roland Williams stated: “This rate decrease illustrates the importance of CVSan’s rate-setting process. Although the savings to customers may seem minimal, it is a great example of how CVSan takes managing the public’s funds seriously. If the third-party studies show that rates should be adjusted for services, we are more than happy to make that adjustment, even down to fractions of a percent.”
