Aerial Pipeline and Pump Station Rehabilitation Project

Aerial Pipeline and Pump Station Rehabilitation Project

CVSan knows that investment in infrastructure is key to having a high-quality sewer system that protects our community and environment. While the majority of sewer mains that CVSan maintains are located underground, aerial pipelines are sewer mains that cross creeks and streams above ground. Castro Valley has 14 aerial pipeline locations, and the maintenance of these lines is crucial for maintaining a healthy watershed. While reviewing the integrity of CVSan’s aerial pipelines, it was determined that some pipe materials were prone to structural failure. A special coating will be applied to these pipes to increase structural integrity to help prevent raw sewage from entering our local creeks and streams.

Aerial Pipeline Rehabilitation:

The project scope for the Aerial Pipeline Rehabilitation Project was developed during a comprehensive review of all the aerial (creek crossing) pipelines, which was completed several years ago. This proposed Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP) lining rehabilitation projects are the first phase of the plan to continue to monitor, test, and inspect all the parts that comprise CVSan’s aerial pipelines.

The following summarizes the proposed improvements included in this project: Four aerial pipelines, ranging in sizes from 8-inch to 24-inch, will be rehabilitated by CIPP. One pipe segment may include spot repairs (24-inch)

Pump Station Rehabilitation:

The project scope for the Pump Station Rehabilitation Project was developed with the Pump Station Asset Management Plan serving as a guide.

The following summarizes the proposed improvements included in this project: Five Pump Stations will see minor repairs (Pump Stations 1, 3, 4, 5, and 11). Minor repairs include hatch replacements, float replacements, fall protection anchor points, and electrical bypass. Three Pump Stations will see major repairs (Pump Stations 7, 8, and 9). Major repairs include all minor repairs, pipe and valve work, concrete repair, protective coating, and new sewer bypass connections.
