Street Cans

In 2002, 100 street cans were placed along Castro Valley Boulevard and Redwood Road by Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) to reduce or eliminate litter as a benefit to the community. The street cans were the result of a joint effort between CVSan, Mr. Carl Owens of “Keep Castro Valley Beautiful”, and past Director Bonnie Dettmer of the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce.

In 2006, 34 recycling pyramids were added to strategically selected street cans. The recycling pyramids encourage the diversion of beverage containers with a California Refund Value, including bottles and cans.

The street cans are serviced by Alameda County Industries. Should you see graffiti or an overflowing can, please note the number of the can and call CVSan at (510) 537-0757 to place a report.

The street cans and recycling pyramids have been funded by a grant from the Department of Conservation.
